A new website helps Kirklees kick hate crime into touch
Hate crime is a specific, little known crime that targets particular groups of the community. Covering a spectrum including racism, homophobia and attacks on people with disabilities, it unfortunately takes many forms from physical attack to graffiti. Together, Bang and Kirklees Council have developed and launched a ‘report it' website to provide support for victims and stimulate anonymous reporting.
Following Bang's extremely successful campaign which was originally launched in 2008, we were invited to develop the website to enhance interactivity. Our in house web team put their skills into action developing flash videos and homepage introductions, as well as making sure that navigation is clear, crisp and easy to follow.
In addition, a HTML mailer and flash presenter were developed to generate broader awareness of the campaign.
Bang's work aims to eradicate hate crime and develop a strong pilot for the home office, on which future campaigns can be built.
